General & cost
The things most families ask first.
How much does it cost — and what if we can't afford it? ›
Program fees range from about $40 for a season to $225 for a full week of camp. No family is ever turned away for cost: our no-questions-asked scholarship covers the fee for anyone who needs it. Just ask when you register.
What ages do you serve? ›
Most programs are for girls ages 8–14, though the exact range varies by program (see "By program" below). If you're not sure whether your rider fits, reach out to your chapter and we'll help.
Does she need her own bike or helmet? ›
No. We provide a bike and a properly fitted helmet for every session. Riders are welcome to bring their own if they prefer.
What should she bring? ›
Just closed-toe shoes and a water bottle. Dress for the weather — we ride rain or shine unless it's unsafe.
What if we need to miss a session? ›
No problem — just let your coach know. Programs are built so a missed session won't leave your rider behind.
By program
What each program is, and who it's for.
Pedal Power — does she need to know how to ride? ›
Not at all. Pedal Power is our flagship learn-to-ride program for ages 8–12 and starts from the very beginning — balance, braking, and building confidence.
Glide to Ride — what's different? ›
Glide to Ride is for girls ages 10–14 who can already balance and pedal on their own. Sessions run 90 minutes and focus on confidence and independent riding, including a group ride.
Club GiG — is it a drop-off program? ›
Yes. Club GiG is a weekly after-school club mixing riding, mentorship, and fun, with supervised pickup at 5:30 PM. Members can use our bikes or bring their own.
Camp GiG — what are the hours and what's included? ›
Camp GiG is a full-week summer day camp. Drop-off is 8:00 AM, pickup 4:00 PM, with extended care to 5:30 PM. Campers bring lunch; we provide snacks and water all day.
Not every program runs in every chapter — check your chapter page for what's on the schedule now.
Coaching & volunteering
Curious about helping out?
Do I need cycling experience to coach? ›
No. Most of our best coaches hadn't been on a bike in years. Enthusiasm matters more than skill — we handle the curriculum, bikes, and training.
What's the time commitment, and is there a cost? ›
One session a week during the season is plenty. There's no cost to you — training, materials, and your background check are all covered.
Giving
How donations work.
Is my donation tax-deductible? ›
Yes. Girls in Gear is a registered 501(c)(3); you'll receive a receipt for your records.
Does my gift stay in my area? ›
Chapter donations are earmarked for that chapter's bikes, sites, and scholarships.
Can I give monthly? ›
Absolutely — recurring gifts are the most helpful, since they let us plan seasons ahead.
